For the 2022 edition of Art Basel Miami Beach, GRAY is pleased to participate in the fair’s Galleries and Kabinett sectors in Booth B3.

In the Kabinett sector, David Hockney’s newest landscape series captures the nature surrounding his home and studio in Normandy, France. Inspired by his daily observations, Hockney painted his surroundings on his iPad, a medium of unique immediacy that allowed him to be prolific in his depictions of his home, the changing seasons, and surrounding countryside. The landscape paintings–central to David Hockney’s current global exhibition 20 Flowers and Some Bigger Pictures–were created using several iPad paintings combined to form a single, immersive image.

In the Galleries sector, GRAY features works by artists from the gallery’s Modern and contemporary programs, including McArthur Binion, Alexander Calder, Willem de Kooning, Torkwase Dyson, Max Ernst, Sam Francis, Theaster Gates, Ewan Gibbs, Adolph Gottlieb, Philip Guston, David Hockney, Rashid Johnson, Alex Katz, Roy Lichtenstein, Henry Moore, Carrie Moyer, Jaume Plensa, Susan Rothenberg, Richard Serra, Leon Polk Smith, Evelyn Statsinger, and Bob Thompson.

Highlights from the presentation include large-scale sculpture by Alexander Calder, an iconic 1970s horse painting by Susan Rothenberg, and a 1963 oil on canvas painting by Bob Thompson. Works from the gallery’s contemporary program include a large-scale landscape painting by Alex Katz, whose survey exhibition Gathering recently opened at the Guggenheim Museum in New York, a new visual:ear painting by McArthur Binion, and new ceramic and tar painting pieces by Theaster Gates, whose monographic exhibition, Young Lords and their Traces, is on view at the New Museum in New York.

Founded in 1963, GRAY is located in Chicago and New York. The gallery is known internationally for Modern and contemporary art, representing some of the most significant artists of the 20th and 21st centuries. GRAY participates at Art Basel in Basel, Art Basel in Miami Beach, Art Busan, EXPO Chicago, Art Singapore, and ADAA’s The Art Show.
