JIM DINE - OLD ME NOW: SELF PORTRAIT DRAWINGS 2008-2009
November 20, 2009 - January 16, 2010
Richard Gray Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of new drawings by Jim Dine. Old Me, Now consists of twenty self‐portraits rendered in a combination of charcoal, watercolor, pastel, enamel and acrylic, all completed in the last two years. A full color catalogue published by Steidl is available.
Since his rise to prominence in the 1960s, Jim Dine has shifted deftly between painting, sculpture and drawing. His work defies easy categorization, but remains steadfastly autobiographical in nature. Several times over his 50+year career, Dine has turned to his own countenance for subject matter. This latest body of work is intimate and sincere, and demonstrates the artist's superb draftsmanship. Jim Dine's work is in major collections worldwide, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Centre Pompidou, the Tate Gallery, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Museum of Modern Art, New York.
