CHICAGO/NEW YORK—Gray is pleased to announce the appointment of Sharon Kim as Partner. Sharon Kim joins Gray following a 26-year tenure at Christie’s New York where she currently serves as International Director of Impressionist & Modern Art. Commencing at Gray in the summer of 2020, Kim will join gallery principals Valerie Carberry and Paul Gray, and will be based out of the gallery’s Upper East Side location.
“Sharon’s expertise in the field of Impressionist and Modern art and her long experience placing museum quality works by Modern masters such as Picasso and Giacometti align beautifully with the legacy and identity of Gray,” stated Valerie Carberry. “Her vision and leadership for our New York space come at the perfect time as we build toward the future in both Modern and Contemporary.”

Possessing both connoisseurship and market savvy, Kim provided expert-level collection management counsel and market intelligence to clients as a senior specialist of Christie’s world-wide Impressionist & Modern Art Evening Sales, and cultivated strong relationships with major private collectors, institutions, and museums worldwide. As a result of her stewardship of the Impressionist & Modern Art Department, Kim was instrumental in securing numerous record-breaking consignments and acquisitions including masterworks by Constantin Brancusi, Paul Cézanne, Max Ernst, René Magritte, Joan Miró, and Pablo Picasso, among others.

Sharon Kim began her career at Christie’s in 1994 and rose to become Head of Day and Works on Paper Sales in New York in 2005. Between 2005-2009, Kim led sales for eight consecutive auction seasons during which time she achieved the highest results in the history of Christie’s Day sales in November of 2007. In 2008, Kim was appointed Christie’s Senior Vice President of Impressionist & Modern Art, and in 2011 was elected to the position of International Director which she has held until the present.
