Worldviews, on view in the Franke Reading Room in the Art Institute of Technology, considers different vantage points on psychic and earthly natural phenomena, exploring subjectivity and what bridges us to the past. Worldviews features GRAY artists Ellen Lanyon and Alex Katz.
The notion of a worldview, or a comprehensive outlook on life, feels at odds with the clips, cuts, memes, and fragmentation that shape 21st-century communication. At a time when it feels as if there is no mainstream—only streaming—the idea of a worldview can prompt nostalgia for big ideas that connect how individuals look at the world around them.
Join The Art Institute of Chicago for an intimate conversation on the installation with its co-curators, Leslie Wilson, academic curator and director of Research Programs, and Jill Bugajski, executive director of the Research Center. The conversation will be followed by an open viewing and reception with the interns and fellows who assisted with the show.
