ARTIST INTERVIEW | Jim Lutes: Solo, No Solo
Jim Lutes: Solo, No Solo, is now live on Gray Viewing Rooms featuring an exclusive video interview with the artist in his Chicago studio. In the conversation, Lutes discusses the evolution of his practice, from his his early years in Seattle studying with artist Gaylen Hansen to his visual experimentation while a graduate student at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Throughout it all, Lutes has eschewed categorization, instead opting to maintain a material-oriented, unhurried, and organic process.
As the artist explains, “I try to create relationships in the paintings that are odd enough to not have a good explanation. And usually, if you put enough things together that don’t have a good explanation, then people will create their own. That is what I am trying most to do.”
Jim Lutes: Solo, No Solo will be live on Gray Viewing Rooms through August 28.
